A working group for organizing a new scheme of suburban railway traffic within the boundaries of the Vladivostok agglomeration within the framework of the “Light Metro” project was created on the Far Eastern Railway (FER; part of Russian Railways), reported The carrier’s press service today, December 22. The group included representatives of the divisions and directorates of the Far Eastern Railway, as well as the commuter carrier Express Primorye JSC. At the initial stage, they were given the task of generating solutions for the implementation of the transport project.

The Light Metro project was first announced at the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF-2023) in September. It is designed to relieve congestion on city roads by expanding the network of commuter rail routes. The project provides for the construction of additional landing platforms and the creation of “intercept” parking lots near railway stations in Vladivostok and its suburban area.

The project is prescribed as one of the core points of the master plan for the development of the capital of Primorye. The project is expected to be implemented in several stages with completion in 2030.
