The top manager added that the problems with imported components for locomotives have already been partially resolved. However, there are a number of items that continue to be purchased through parallel imports, Valinsky noted. These are bearings, gearboxes for high-speed machines, converters, cable equipment. “But even those positions that go through parallel imports, we are localizing,” Valinsky stressed.
According to Valinsky, Russian Railways plans to buy 602 locomotives in 2023. But this number can be adjusted, the top manager added. The company plans to purchase additional DC and AC electric locomotives.
But at the same time, there are risks in the procurement of innovative locomotives, Valinsky added. According to him, this is due to the fact that they began to be manufactured in 2021. “Although they were considered Russian, nevertheless, they had enough imported components,” the top manager explained, noting that work is underway to localize them. .
According to Mikhail Burmistrov, General Director of Infoline Analytics, the level of localization of most locomotives is already around 90%. “It is realistic to get completely domestic locomotives by the end of 2024,” the expert added.
