EU to tighten control over Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Google and Twitter from August 25 – Kommersant

The EU leadership plans to tighten control over 19 platforms from August 25, including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Google and Twitter. This was announced by the European Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton.
Control will be tightened due to the law on digital services. This will affect the work of Facebook, Instagram (owned by Meta, recognized by the Russian authorities as an extremist company and banned in Russia), as well as AliExpress, Amazon Store, AppStore, Bing, Booking, Google Maps, Google Play, Google Search, Google Shopping, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Snapchat, TikTok, Twitter, Wikipedia, YouTube, Zalando. This list may include five more services – now their work is being monitored.
“We believe that these 19 services have become so big that they should take on more responsibility in order to make the Internet safer,” the European Commissioner said at a briefing (quoted from Reuters).
These services and online platforms will have to fulfill additional obligations in the field of protecting users on the Internet, including minors; engage in systemic risk mitigation and provide robust content moderation tools.
