Russian business of British American Tobacco transferred to UAE company

Russian division British American Tobacco (BAT) was transferred to Abu Dhabi company BFI Holding. This is evidenced by data from the Unified State Register of Legal Entities, attention to which paid “Kommersant”.
Among the owners of BFI Holding are three former top managers of BAT, the newspaper notes with reference to the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) register. We are talking about Faruk Yener (former general director of BAT for Russia, Turkey, the Caucasus, Central Asia and Belarus), Oleg Barvin (former head of the company’s legal department) and Elena Zavarzina (former marketing director of BAT in the Russian Federation).
Also, the company in Abu Dhabi is owned by Andrey Osavolyuk and Sergey Kudinov, who may be associated with the distributor of BAT in Russia, GC SNA, writes Kommersant. In particular, Osavolyuk was a co-owner of the Russian division of Global Functional Drinks, which supplied Fresh Bar, E-ON, Tornado Energy drinks (included in the SNS portfolio). Kudinov headed the structure of the SNS Center group, which ceased work in 2018.
The shares of the founders of BFI Holding are not disclosed in the ADGM register.
In September 2023, BAT completed the sale of Russian and Belarusian assets to a consortium headed by the management of BAT Russia. Now these enterprises operate under the name ITMS Group. The composition of the consortium was not disclosed.
The tobacco concern opened a representative office in Russia in 1991. On the Russian market, BAT sold cigarettes under the brands Kent, Rothmans, Vogue, Dunhill, Pall Mall, Lucky Strike, Java Gold, etc., as well as the Glo tobacco heating system. In March 2022 the company announced about leaving the Russian market. BAT explained its decision by saying that its business in Russia “is no longer sustainable in the current conditions.”
