Russian banks earned 2.4 trillion rubles in 8 months of 2023. — profit for the entire 2021. This is stated in the analytical material Central Bank on the development of the banking sector in August 2023.
According to the material, the net profit of the sector in August 2023 amounted to 353 billion rubles, which is 8% higher than the July results (327 billion rubles). At the same time, balance sheet capital increased by 223 billion rubles. up to 13.4 trillion rubles. It is noted that profits are growing due to income from the revaluation of foreign currency against the background of the weakening of the ruble in July-August.
The key indicators of banking sector growth in August 2023 were:
- Continued growth of the corporate portfolio by 1.7 percent after 2.1% in July. The Central Bank expects growth rates to slow given the tightening of monetary policy;
- Record growth in retail loans by 3.7%. The issuance of mortgages with state support increased by 40%, the issuance of market mortgages by 20%. Consumer lending continued to grow in August by 2.4% after growing by 2% in July;
- An increase in corporate funds by 3.7%, as well as an increase in foreign currency balances by 2.8%. According to the Central Bank, household funds remain growing at 0.8% (+1.1% in July). The decrease in the Central Bank is explained by a seasonal increase in expenses for vacations and preparation for the school year, as well as investments in real estate.
