According to preliminary estimates, in 2023, taking into account the territories of new regions, Russia will harvest 147 million tons of grain, said Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko. At the same time, 4.8 million tons of grain were harvested on the territory of the annexed entities.
“In net weight, the forecast is still at 147 million tons, for wheat – about 95 million tons,” Victoria Abramchenko told RIA Novosti. Speaking about the contribution of new territories to the harvest, the Deputy Prime Minister said that we are talking about 4.8 million tons.
According to Victoria Abramchenko, in Russia as a whole in 2023 a “very good result” was obtained for the grain harvest. She emphasized that last year “there were no dramatic events, climate disasters, we were lucky with the weather.”
The grain harvest for 2022 was a record: 157.6 million tons of grain were harvested, including 104 million tons of wheat. Over the year, grain harvest increased by 29.9%. According to Rosstat, in 2021 the grain harvest amounted to 121.4 million tons in net weight, in 2020 – 133.5 million tons.
According to review “Results 2023: grain market” by the Institute of Agricultural Market Studies, Russia’s share in world wheat trade this season may increase to 25% (22% in 2022). The predicted share of the EU countries is 11%, the joint share of the USA and Canada is 20%. In order to prevent a reduction in supplies in conditions of overstocking of the domestic market, from this year the authorities will allow exporters to refuse part of the grain export quotas, distributing the “surplus” among other suppliers.
