The Netherlands became the third country in terms of volumes of purchases of Russian resources, despite the fact that the annual volume decreased by 1.9 times and amounted to 2.1 billion cubic meters. m. Greece became the leader in increasing purchases. In 2023, the volume of Russian LNG amounted to 750 million cubic meters. m, jumping 4.1 times compared to a year earlier.
The European Union has not yet imposed sanctions against Russian LNG, partly compensating for the decline in Russian gas supplies through pipelines. However, officials urge EU countries not to enter into long-term contracts with Russia. In the fall of 2023, the United States imposed sanctions against NOVATEK’s Arctic LNG 2 project, which will complicate supplies from it, especially to Europe.
