To attract wealthy tourists, Russia has proposed introducing a mutual visa-free regime for Bahrain, Kuwait, Malaysia, Oman and Saudi Arabia, said the head of the Ministry of Economy, Maxim Reshetnikov. According to him, the authorities expect to more actively promote the country in foreign markets in 2024.

He recalled that agreements on group visa-free travel with Iran and China had recently come into force. At the same time, the minister clarified that “not everything is still working perfectly, additional efforts are required.” The authorities want to conclude a similar agreement with India.

“Plus we are developing the topic of transition to visa-free travel. Of the countries we work with, these are the countries of the Middle East and Southeast Asia; we have offered complete abolition of visas to Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia. This is where an increase in premium class tourists is possible, so this interests us,” Mr. Reshetnikov said at the EEF (quoted by Interfax).

In 2000, the governments of the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China entered into an agreement on visa-free group tourist trips. It allows tourists in groups of 5 to 50 people to visit Russia or China and stay there without a visa for 15 days.

In February at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China and Russia stated about readiness to resume mutual tourism. In the same month of the country resumed agreement on visa-free group tourist trips. At the end of February, the first group of tourists from China since the COVID-19 pandemic arrived in Russia.
