Russia increased investments in US government securities to $73 million in September – Kommersant

In September, Russia increased the volume of investments in American government bonds to $73 million. This is evidenced by data US Treasury. Of this volume, $61 million is accounted for by long-term government bonds in Russian investments, as well as $12 million by short-term ones.
Compared to August, this figure more than doubled (from $31 million). In July, Russia’s investments in US government securities amounted to $29 million, in June – $33 million, in May – $36 million, in April – $35 million, in March – $77 million, in February – $75 million.
Russia has been reducing investments in US government debt since the spring of 2018, when their level dropped sharply from $96 billion in April to $48.7 billion, and in May to $14.9 billion.
The leader in the volume of investments in US government securities in September is Japan – about $1.08 trillion (while in August this figure was $1.1 trillion). In second place is China with $778.1 billion ($805.4 billion in August). Third place is in Britain with $668.9 billion ($698.1 billion in August).
In September, the US national debt for the first time in history exceeded $33 trillion mark. At the beginning of October this index broke the record again, reaching $33.442 trillion.
