Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin did not support the introduction of an infrastructure fee from marketplaces, reports RBC with reference to the source. According to the publication, the meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Ministers Dmitry Grigorenko and Dmitry Chernyshenko, presidential aide Maxim Oreshkin, head of the Ministry of Economy Maxim Reshetnikov, head of the Ministry of Digital Maksut Shadayev, Minister of Finance Anton Siluanov and General Director of Russian Post Mikhail Volkov. “Mikhail Volkov presented a concept for increasing the efficiency of postal operations. One of the elements is the introduction of fees from marketplaces, which would most likely be passed on to buyers. The prime minister did not support the proposal,” says one of the interlocutors.
The press service of the government, the Ministry of Digital Development and Russian Post have not yet commented on the situation.
In 2022, Russian Post received a loss of 30.4 billion rubles. The company’s debt amounted to 133 billion rubles, while most of it “has no source of return or repayment,” admitted its head Mikhail Volkov. Russian Post is trying to find mechanisms to reduce losses, and one of the ideas was an “infrastructure fee” from marketplaces, but market participants opposed it.
