In November 2023, Russia became the main exporter of uranium to the United States for the first time in six months, the agency calculated “RIA News”. That month, the United States purchased $96 million worth of fuel from Russia.

In total, Washington purchased uranium from four countries in November. The country purchased $48.6 million worth of fuel from Great Britain, $44 million from Japan, and $2.4 million from Belgium.

Compared to October last year, the cost of uranium supplies has increased by almost half. Previously, Russia exported between $32 million and $63 million worth of nuclear fuel to the United States. The previous time Moscow was the top supplier of nuclear fuel to the United States was in May 2023, when the country supplied $177 million worth of uranium.

In the first 11 months of 2023, Russia sold nuclear fuel to the United States for the maximum amount since 2010, $1.007 billion. In 2022, uranium exports amounted to $766 million.

Reuters 10 January wrotethat the United States is looking for an alternative to high-grade, low-enriched uranium from Russia for use in new generation reactors. The only company that deals with such supplies is Rosatom’s subsidiary, Techsnabexport.
