Rosselkhoznadzor reported that the agency did not receive documents from the competent agency of Ecuador on the situation with the export of bananas. Previously, Ecuadorian imports of bananas to the Russian Federation were limited by 30% by decision of Rosselkhoznadzor.
“Rosselkhoznadzor has not received any documents from the competent agency of Ecuador on the situation with the export of bananas from the republic to Russia. At the same time, an invitation was received from the Ecuadorian side to visit the republic in order to certify the places of production of regulated products. This invitation has nothing to do with the request of Rosselkhoznadzor to suspend the certification of 5 exporting enterprises,” they said TASS in the control department.
Representatives of Rosselkhoznadzor said that they hope to conduct an investigation in Ecuador into the facts of identified violations in the work of several banana importers; the Ecuadorian side promised to provide the inspection materials to the Russian Federation. The service is also waiting for information on measures taken by Ecuador to eliminate violations.
February 2 Rosselkhoznadzor expressed concern due to “systematic detections” of humpback flies in Ecuadorian bananas and suspended the certification of five Ecuadorian banana producers as of February 5. According to Rosselkhoznadzor, the humpback fly has high fertility, including indoors, and is also a carrier of cholera. Fly larvae penetrate the tissues of animals and humans, settling in skin wounds, intestines, lungs, on the mucous membrane of the eyes, and in the organs of the genitourinary system. On February 6, the department announced an increase in banana supplies from India.
