By the end of 2023, Russia became the first in the world in salmon production. Fisheries caught 609 thousand tons of salmon. This is stated in the message on the website Ministry of Agriculture.
Head of the Ministry of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev at a meeting of the operational headquarters spoke with the results of agricultural production. He noted that livestock farmers increased milk production by 500 thousand tons, meat – by 300 thousand tons. Exports of agricultural products exceeded $45 billion.
The result of 2023 in salmon production was the second in the history of Russia; the record salmon catch was in 2018: 676 thousand tons. The catch of aquatic biological resources in 2023 was the highest in 30 years.
Since 2014, the most expensive salmon supplied to the Russian Federation Faroe islands. However, after the start of the SVO, many companies stopped exporting to Russia. Today, Chile is a major supplier of salmon.
At the end of 2023 the USA banned import of salmon, cod, crab and pollock caught in Russian waters. In the US, the House of Representatives of Congress passed the No Russian Agricultural Act bill to limit dependence on Russian agriculture.
