Russian Energy Minister Nikolai Shulginov said that Russia and Pakistan are ready to sign corporate documents on the construction of the Pakistan Stream gas pipeline. The project was discussed within the framework of consultations of the Russian-Pakistani Intergovernmental Commission (IPC).
“Today we discussed in detail the construction of the Pakistan Stream gas pipeline. We are ready to sign the necessary corporate documents,” Mr. Shulginov said in an interview with a Pakistani channel. PTV World. Russia and Pakistan signed an agreement on the construction of the Pakistan Stream in 2015. Construction was postponed, including due to the imposition of sanctions against the Russian companies Rostec and TMK, which were supposed to participate in the project. In May 2021, Nikolai Shulginov and Pakistani Ambassador to the Russian Federation Shafkat Ali Khan signed a document amending the agreement on the implementation of the gas pipeline. Implementation dates were not named.
The gas pipeline is planned to link LNG receiving terminals in the ports of Karachi and Gwadar in southern Pakistan with power plants in Kasur district in the north of the country. The length of the gas pipeline, according to the Ministry of Energy, will be about 1.1 thousand km. Throughput – 12.3 billion cubic meters. m per year.
