Russia and Myanmar resumed flights

Air traffic between Russia and Myanmar, suspended 30 years ago, has resumed, reported in Rosaviatsia.
“Today, September 5, 2023, the first regular flight of Myanmar Airways International arrived in Novosibirsk, which performed a flight on the Yangon-Mandalay-Novosibirsk route,” the message says.
The flight was met by representatives of the leadership of the Novosibirsk Region, Tolmachevo Airport, the Federal Air Transport Agency, as well as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Myanmar to Russia Lwin U. The Republic became the 38th country with which Russia has direct flights.
“The start of flights will create additional opportunities for Russian tourists who prefer holidays in Southeast Asia. It will also contribute to the development of business contacts,” the Federal Air Transport Agency noted.
Formerly with Myanmar Airways reported Vedomosti that the company will lease long-range Airbus A330 aircraft for direct flights from Yangon to Moscow.
The executive director of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia, Maya Lomidze, predicted that at the initial stage the tourist flow in the direction would be small. At the same time, Friendly Avia Support CEO Alexander Lanetsky said that Myanmar is “one of the most underestimated” countries in the world in terms of tourism potential.
