Rostransnadzor proposed to tighten the rules for the admission of foreign airlines to Russia

In early December, Rostransnadzor sent a letter to the Ministry of Transport with a proposal to tighten the rules for allowing foreign airlines to fly to Russia. It is reported “News” with a link to a copy of the document.
The department’s letter says that Russia should introduce a program for assessing the safety of foreign airlines by analogy with other countries. Before being allowed to fly in the Russian Federation, they must undergo an audit aimed at confirming their compliance with flight safety requirements. Without approval, foreign airlines cannot be allowed into Russian airspace, the letter says.
The reason for the introduction of new rules is, in particular, the possibility of Russia imposing retaliatory sanctions on prohibitions and restrictions by foreign states “for reasons not related to flight safety.”
Rostransnadzor recalled that the permits for flights to the EU from Russian airlines were canceled, therefore, when flights resume, it will be necessary to undergo a safety assessment again. At the same time, European airlines will be able to launch flights to Russia immediately, since there are no symmetrical measures against them.
A similar mechanism, in particular, operates in the European Union, Great Britain, the USA, China, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and Mongolia. Rostransnadzor noted that now the rules for admission to international flights for Russian airlines in these countries are stricter than the rules for foreign carriers flying to Russia.
