Rostec State Corporation explained the choice of the name for the Leonardo air ticket booking system. According to message press service, the service is named after the Italian artist and inventor Leonardo da Vinci. On August 7, during a meeting with the head of Rostec Sergey Chemezov, the reason for choosing a name for the domestic system inquired President Vladimir Putin.
During a meeting with the head of state, Sergei Chemezov spoke about the Leonardo air ticket booking system created by Rostec and Sirena-Travel. According to him, more than 60 airlines are already working with the system. About 5 million passengers register in Leonardo every month.
However, Vladimir Putin drew the attention of the general director of Rostec that the system is domestic, but is called Leonardo. “I don’t know, the inventor of this system came up with such a name,” said Mr. Chemezov. “Well, it’s part of world culture,” the president agreed.
Today, August 11, the press service of Rostec published a message explaining the reason for choosing such a name for the service. “It’s simple. The system is named after Leonardo da Vinci, the great scientist of the Middle Ages. It was he who compiled the first set of knowledge about aircraft – the “Code on the Flight of Birds”,” Rostec noted.
The state corporation also emphasized that the works of Leonardo da Vinci “belong to all mankind”, and his name is synonymous with the discoverer. “In this regard, the choice of the name Leonardo for the first Russian service for servicing air passengers looks quite logical,” Rostec added.
The development of AIS “Leonardo” began at the end of 2011. The official launch of the system took place in 2014. In 2019, the Russian government approved a decree on the need to localize booking systems in order to reduce dependence on foreign software.
Currently, such airlines as Red Wings, Aurora, Rusline, Yamal, UTair, Alrosa, as well as Pobeda and Aeroflot have joined Leonardo. According to Rostec, since the transition, Russian airlines have transported more than 44 million passengers with the help of Leonardo.
