Rosstat recorded a decline in egg prices for the second week in a row – Kommersant

Prices for chicken eggs in Russia from January 16 to 22 decreased by an average of 1.4%. Inflation for this period was 0.07%, according to Rosstat. From January 10 to January 15, inflation was 0.13%. A decrease in egg prices was recorded for the second week in a row. For the first time, egg prices in 2024 decreased from January 10 to January 15 (minus 0.2%). Prior to this, egg prices had been rising since June 2023.

Among food During the reporting period, Rosstat recorded an increase in prices, in particular, for cabbage (2.8%), carrots (1.9%), bananas (1.7%), beets (1.5%), onions (1. 1%), cucumbers and apples (1%). Prices for chicken meat (1.4%), pork (0.3%), tomatoes (0.4%), sugar and buckwheat (0.2%), as well as cheeses (0.1%) decreased.

From the number non-food prices of goods increased for medicines: combined analgesics (1.5%), rengalin (1.3%), metamizole sodium (domestic analgin) (0.9%), levomekol (0.8%), allochol and nimesulide (0. 6%), multivitamins (0.5%), Corvalol (0.3%), ergoferon (0.1%). Among essential goods, Rosstat recorded an increase in prices for baby diapers (0.3%), soap, sanitary pads and dry animal food (0.2%), as well as for toothbrushes (0.1%). Prices decreased for toothpastes, matches (0.1%) and laundry soap (0.2%).

Among other non-food products, prices rose over five days for televisions (0.4%), men’s socks (0.3%), cigarettes and children’s jeans (0.2%), shampoos, children’s sneakers and edged boards (0.1% ). Price reductions were recorded for smartphones (0.9%), oriented strand boards and vacuum cleaners (0.2%), as well as children’s tracksuits and T-shirts (0.1%). Prices for gasoline and diesel have not changed.

Among the sphere services The statistical service noted an increase in housing fees in houses of state and municipal housing stock (0.7%), the average price of vouchers in sanatoriums (0.6%), and in holiday homes and boarding houses (0.3%). Accommodation in hotels of 2 stars and above increased by 0.2%, and in hostels and hotels of 1 star – by 0.1%. The increase in tariffs on public transport amounted to 0.1%. The cost of air travel in economy decreased by 1.1%.

In December 2023, the price of eggs increased by 10–20% in 46 regions of the country. According to Rosstat, in December the price of eggs increased by 61.35% year on year. Russian President Vladimir Putin explained the rise in egg prices by increased demand, which producers and the government could not keep up with. To stabilize prices, Russia began purchasing eggs from Turkey, Belarus and Azerbaijan.
