Rosstandart allowed the reduction of data on the expiration date on product labels

We are talking about reducing the data on the place of production of the goods, as well as indicating exactly where on the packaging the expiration date and date of manufacture of the product are indicated. For example, Rosstandart may refuse the inscription “date of manufacture, good before: indicated on the package.”
At the same time, the department emphasized that changes in label standards should be considered as part of making adjustments to the technical regulations of the Customs Union. They are common to the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). The press service of the Eurasian Economic Commission (the regulatory body of the EAEU) noted that such proposals have not yet been received.
Rosstandart believes that manufacturers will be able to transfer part of the information on the labels to QR codes. This will help reduce the size of the label and the amount of ink used. A revision of the current GOST in Russia with recommendations for product labels is scheduled for 2023. It is planned to bring its requirements in line with the technical regulations of the Customs Union.
In early July, Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko instructed the departments to study the issue of changes in Russia’s national standards “in the field of product labeling” due to a shortage of paper and ink. It was about reducing the size of the labels on the packages. It was clarified that the initiative came from business. Manufacturers urged to reduce administrative barriers and reduce packaging materials. July 13 RBC reportedthat the Russian government promised to work on this idea.
