Moldovan wine sales to Russia fell by almost 60%

Sales of Moldovan wine to Russia decreased by 58.9% compared to 2021, the National Bureau of Vine and Wine told RIA Novosti. According to the Moldovan organization, local wineries are reorienting themselves towards Europe and the USA.

The bureau clarified that wine exports to Russia have been declining for several years. Since the beginning of 2022, Moldovan companies have exported products worth $3.4 million to Russia.

“Many manufacturers have refocused on the domestic market and have also gone on sale to Romania. For example, over 7 months of this year, the export of bottled products to this country increased by 2.5%, they sold $13.2 million,” the bureau specified.

Exports to Canada also increased by a third, wines worth $1.6 million were sold. In general, Moldova exported wine products worth $60.4 million in the first half of the year, which is 26.3% less than in the same period in 2021. The wine was supplied to 55 countries.

Shipments of Moldovan bottled wines in physical terms decreased by 23.5%, and in bulk – by 39.4%. In value terms, the former decreased by 25%, while the latter increased by 13.3%. The largest consumers of Moldovan bottled wines were Romania (with a share of 18.9%), Poland (14.8%), Czech Republic (12.7%), Russia (6.9%), China (5.8%).
