Rosselkhoznadzor announced an artificial shortage of a number of vaccines for animals

Foreign suppliers from some countries have artificially created a shortage of individual animal vaccines in Russia, Rosselkhoznadzor said.
“We are talking more about companies from unfriendly countries, <...> are supported and disseminated at all levels, including through the media, versions of drug shortages and excessive control”, – leads Interfax message.
The department explained that some suppliers refuse to check the Rosselkhoznadzor for the requirements of good manufacturing practice (GMP), without which products will not be able to be delivered to the Russian Federation from September 1.
Rosselkhoznadzor emphasizes that such inspections are standard world practice, and 32 foreign sites in China, India, France, Portugal, Spain, Israel, etc. have already passed inspection.
Despite the current situation for a number of drugs, total imports of vaccines for animals in the first quarter increased by 26% year-on-year and amounted to 5.2 billion doses. The production of such drugs in Russia increased by 88% in 2022, reaching 12.74 billion doses. The Rosselkhoznadzor explained this dynamics by a multiple increase in the output of NPP Avivak and FGBI ARRIAH. Production of vaccines for dogs and cats increased by 18% to 14.98 million doses.
Earlier in November, Vedomosti reported on a 26% reduction in imports of vaccines for cats and dogs in the first quarter of 2022. Vanguard vaccines from Zoetis showed the largest drop (deliveries amounted to 40,000 doses, which is 15.5 times less compared to 2021) and Nobivak from MSD Animal Health (2.02 million doses vs. 4.6 million a year earlier). As experts noted at the time, imported vaccines have Russian counterparts, but they are not recognized abroad, which is why, having supplied a domestic vaccine, it will not be possible to travel with a pet to another country.
