Roskomnadzor sees no reason to remove the blocking from the social network Twitter despite the change of domain, the agency said. Twitter owner Elon Musk announced on July 24 that the x.com domain would now automatically redirect users to the microblogging service website.
“The x.com domain is currently redirecting to the blocked twitter.com domain. There are no grounds for unblocking the social network Twitter, ”the press service of Roskomnadzor said (quote from TASS).
July 24 social network Twitter changed its logo from a blue bird to a white X with a black outline. The new logo is displayed in the Twitter header and when the page is refreshed.
In April 2023, a collective appeal of State Duma deputies to the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov with a request to unblock Twitter, which was prepared by the faction of the New People party, signed deputies from all factions of the State Duma. The appeal stated that the platform had ceased to “discriminate against Russian politicians and journalists.” However, the head of the supervisory agency replied that there were no grounds for unblocking Twitter in the Russian Federation at the moment.
Twitter was completely blocked on the territory of Russia in March 2023 due to the publication of “inaccurate socially significant information on the subject of a special military operation in Ukraine.”
