Putin ordered banks to check all transfers of individuals for fraud – Kommersant

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed lawwhich obliges banks operating in the country to check all transfers of individuals in case of suspected fraud, as well as to suspend suspicious transactions for two days.

According to the document, if a financial institution allowed the transfer of funds to a fraudulent account located in a special database of the Bank of Russia, it will be obliged to refund the money to the client. This credit institution must do this within 30 calendar days after receiving an application from the victim.

In addition, banks will also have to turn off the remote service of alleged fraudsters if there is relevant information from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation about the initiation of a criminal case or an entry in the register of statements and reports of crimes.

The law signed by the head of state will have to come into force exactly one year after its official publication.

In 2022, the Central Bank reported on growth activity of bank fraudsters. In November, it identified over 110,000 attackers, the highest number since 2019. In the first quarter of this year, a record was also set for the theft of funds from bank customers – more than 4.5 billion rubles.
