Roskomnadzor identified 43 million mobile numbers registered with violations

Based on the results of inspections for 2023, Roskomnadzor (RKN) identified 43 million mobile numbers of subscribers of Russian telecom operators that were registered with violations. In total, 351 million SIM cards are registered in Russia.
“In total, 43 million numbers containing violations were identified, of which operators have already provided reliable information for 42 million numbers. From September to December 2023, telecom operators stopped providing services to more than 600,000 numbers with unknown owners,” RKN reported “Vedomosti”.
The department added that in 2022 and 2023, the RKN, together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, carried out about 200 events, during which more than 78 thousand “gray” SIM cards were seized. In April last year, operators began mass sending notifications to subscribers asking them to confirm their passport details. In August, RKN began blocking numbers without personal identification.
