Roskomnadzor (RKN) reported that since February 24, 2022, it has blocked more than 160 thousand resources with fakes about the progress of Russia’s military operation in Ukraine. In addition, the department reported on the blocking of almost 3.5 thousand “mirrors of anti-Russian information resources”, as well as 4.3 thousand video services with ads containing fakes about the SVO.
“Fakes act with a cumulative effect: a parallel information reality is gradually being created around a person. This leads to the rejection of critical thinking, the perception of other points of view and the observance of information hygiene, ”said the RKN in Telegram channel.
According to the agency, fakes are often based on truthful information: in numerical terms, the ratio of truth and lies in such messages is 20% to 80%, respectively, according to the agency. “The enemy seeks to oversaturate the information field of the Runet with fakes, but the existing legislative, organizational and technical mechanisms make it possible to counter this,” the RKN concluded.
On March 4, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the law on punishment for fakes about the Russian Armed Forces. During the period of the rule, several dozen major Russian and international publications have been blocked. According to Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Public dissemination of knowingly false information about the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation”), in 2022, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office, 187 crimes were registered.
