Roskomnadzor blocked 206 thousand resources due to false information about the special operation

Since February 24, 2022, Roskomnadzor has restricted access to approximately 206,000 websites, Vadim Subbotin, deputy head of Roskomnadzor, said. The department claims that these resources published unreliable materials about the Russian military operation, discrediting the Russian armed forces.

“Since February 24, this is about 206,000 pages of inaccurate materials along the lines of the SVO, plus discrediting the armed forces of the Russian Federation, and in this amount there are still materials calling for mass unauthorized actions, riots,” Mr. Subbotin said on the sidelines of the conference “Local radio: innovations and prospects” (quote from RIA Novosti).

The deputy head of Roskomnadzor noted that at present all these resources are blocked, and the materials have been removed from social networks. He added that the department has been carrying out such work every day since the beginning of Russia’s military operation in Ukraine.

Due to the failure to remove materials containing false information about the conduct of the Russian military operation, June 1 was blocked website of the foreign platform for social journalism Medium. On the same day the World Court in Moscow fined Wikimedia Foundation (owner of the encyclopedia “Wikipedia”) for 3 million rubles. Roskomnadzor demanded that the fund remove the article “Russian occupation of the Kharkiv region” from the resource.
