Rosgeo predicts record volumes of exploration in Africa

The state holding “Rosgeologia” expects in 2023 an increase in the number of projects for the exploration of solid minerals (SRM) in Africa by about two times. On March 1, General Director of the company Sergey Gorkov told reporters about this on the sidelines of a meeting of the Scientific and Technical Council “Import Substitution in Geological Exploration”.
According to Gorkov, the state holding is expected to have up to 10 projects in Africa in 2023, compared to 4-5 last year. He stressed that this is “the first time in history since the Soviet period.”
In particular, Rosgeo is implementing the second phase of the gold exploration project in Sudan in 2023, where it has a contract to carry out work until 2027. Two more solid minerals projects are being implemented in Benin and the Central African Republic. In terms of revenue, Sudan is currently the largest Rosgeo project in Africa. “There are good results, now we will work out the field season,” Gorkov said. “Despite all the difficulties, everything is on schedule, and even colleagues pay on time.”
According to the head of Rosgeo, negotiations are underway with Algeria (a firm contract is expected to be signed in May), as well as with Angola, Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe, Morocco and Mozambique. With the last two countries, the state holding plans to sign agreements on projects by the middle of this year.
