Rosatom has agreed to replicate the Akkuyu project model in a number of countries

Rosatom General Director Alexey Likhachev said that the state corporation has agreed with several countries to replicate the model of the Akkuyu NPP project in Turkey. The model assumes that the developer owns the power plant and sells electricity from it to the customer.

“The Turkish Akkuyu project is a typical project where we build, operate and the product is not a nuclear power plant, but electricity. And now there are corresponding agreements with a number of countries to replicate this approach,” Mr. Likhachev said at the Eastern Economic Forum (quoted from RIA Novosti). He did not specify which countries he was talking about.

Akkuyu will be the first nuclear power plant in Turkey and will consist of four power units, each with a capacity of 1.2 thousand MW. The creation of the project is fully financed by the Russian side: the state corporation Rosatom owns a 100% stake in the project, the cost of which is estimated at $20 billion.

Earlier it became known that Rosatom had developed a possible financing scheme for the construction of a second nuclear power plant with a capacity of 4.8 GW in Turkey. The state corporation can use proceeds from the sale of electricity from the Akkuyu NPP for construction.
