Rosatom» signed an agreement with the operator in the field of sea container transportation DP World on cooperation with an Arab company in the development of the Northern Sea Route (Northern Sea Route, NSR). According to the diplomat, Arab countries are showing interest in investing in the NSR, which indicates that its development will pay off “more than once.”

Korchunov also noted that Russia remains the only non-NATO country in the Arctic region. “Recently, we have seen that NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in his speeches goes far beyond military-political issues, undertakes to comment on the content and prospects of non-military, purely civilian cooperation between Russia and other non-Arctic states, with the same China,” noted (quote according to TASS).

Northern Sea Route with a length of 5600 km runs from Murmansk to Vladivostok along the Russian coast of the seas of the Arctic and Pacific Oceans. Navigation in the eastern sector of the Northern Sea Route (from Taimyr to the Bering Strait) is impossible in winter without icebreaking assistance, the ice thickness there reaches 3 m. In 2021, the cargo traffic on the NSR amounted to 34.9 million tons. up to 1627 per year, and cargo traffic increased by 11%. In 2022, 34 million tons of cargo were transported along the NSR.
