The First Mining Company (PGRK), due to the sanctions imposed on Russia, abandoned the floating version of the mining and processing plant (GOK) for the Pavlovsky deposit on the South Island of Novaya Zemlya. The representative of the company, Natalia Potapova, spoke about this at the Arctic Regions Forum.
JSC First Mining Company is a subsidiary of JSC Atomredmetzoloto, the mining division of Rosatom State Corporation.
As Natalya Potapova clarified, whose words are quoted Vedomosti, due to sanctions, PGRK is forced to develop a new concept for the development of the field, in which the mining and processing plant will be built onshore. Initially, the GOK was planned to be installed on a floating base – on a non-self-propelled vessel, or barge.
The supply of equipment for the GOK was to be carried out by the Finnish company Metso Outotec. The barge was designed by Aker Arctic, and Wartsila was supposed to create a power plant for the enterprise. However, according to a Vedomosti source familiar with the details of the project, after the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, Finnish companies stopped cooperating with Rosatom on this project.
The interlocutor of the publication in the Ministry of Natural Resources said that construction and installation work at the GOK of the Pavlovsky field was postponed from May 2022 to 2023. At the same time, he noted that there is no information about the postponement of the commissioning of the Pavlovsk field. According to the license, the field must be put into development no later than December 1, 2024. The GOK plans to produce up to 47 thousand tons of lead and 223 thousand tons of zinc concentrates per year.
