Kazakhstan’s actions to limit the export of scrap by rail will lead to a disruption of the traditional logistics component of raw material supply for metallurgists and can be qualified at the Eurasian Economic Commission as a barrier on the internal market of the EAEU, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Viktor Evtukhov told Kommersant. According to him, imports of Kazakh scrap at the end of 2023 amounted to 591 thousand tons.
The Association of Electrometallurgists complained that restrictions imposed by Kazakhstan would lead to an increase in shortages and rising prices for construction steel. According to their estimates, Russian companies will receive less than 500 thousand tons of scrap.
