Red Wings Airlines received from the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) an Il-96-400T cargo aircraft restored to airworthiness with tail number RA-96103, it reported RBC with reference to two sources. This is the first of 11 aircraft that UAC has been tasked with restoring in 2022.
According to one of the publication’s interlocutors, Red Wings received the plane two weeks ago. He said that the aircraft will be operated by cargo airline Sky Gates Airlines, which will also be responsible for maintaining the aircraft. Red Wnigs acquired Sky Gates this summer. A representative of the leasing company Ilyushin Finance (part of the UAC) told RBC that the transfer of the aircraft is already underway.
According to the portal Russianplanes.net, aircraft number RA-96103 was built in 2009 by the Voronezh Joint-Stock Aircraft Manufacturing Company (VASO). The ship made its first flight in September 2009. Previously, the plane flew with Polet Airlines, which ceased to exist in 2013. The vessel’s operator is now listed as Sky Gates. The aircraft resumed flights in August 2023, according to the website.
In the summer of 2022, the Russian government instructed UAC will restore 11 aircraft, including one An-124, two Il-96-400T and eight Tu-204/214, for Red Wings, Volga-Dnepr and Aviastar-Tu airlines as a measure to combat the consequences of sanctions against the Russian aviation industry.
