Compared to 2021, revenue increased by 13.8% and profit by 6.6%. At the same time, the total net profit of the 27 leading Russian passenger airlines reached a record RUB 87.8 billion, which is 2.8 times higher compared to 2021.
In January, Vedomosti wrote that Russian airlines, following the results of 2022, will moved a total of 95.1 million passengers, which is 16 million people (14.3%) less than a year earlier and 5 million below the bar set in March 2022 by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The largest include 29 airports, each of which served more than 1 million passengers last year. However, the statistics do not take into account the data of the Sheremetyevo airport, since it did not disclose them for the past year. In 2021, Sheremetyevo’s profit amounted to 5.4 billion rubles.
In March last year, Putin said that the volume of domestic air travel in 2022 “should be at least 100 million people.” But in November, Russian Transport Minister Vitaly Savelyev said that airlines would be able to transport no more than 94-96 million people a year. If not for the closure of 11 airports in the south of the country, airlines could carry 19 million more people, he stressed.
