RBC: in 2022, only one of the films supported by the Cinema Fund paid off at the box office

In 2022, 26 films received funding from the Cinema Fund were released into wide release. Only one of them paid off at the box office, follows from the calculations RBC based on data from the Unified Automated Information System (UAIS).

As Cinemaplex film analyst Sergey Lavrov explained, commercially successful in the world can be considered films that collect at the box office at least twice the production budget. Of the 26 films, only one grossed twice as much as was allocated for its production: this is Alexander Fomin’s comedy The Young Man with a budget of 64.8 million, of which 30 million rubles is a non-refundable subsidy from the Cinema Fund. The picture collected 192.2 million rubles.

Only five films from this list were beaten off the budget (they collected more at the box office than it took to produce): Finnick (fees – 442.7 million rubles, budget – 325.2 million rubles), “Heart of Parma” (fees – 932.1 million rubles, budget – 714.4 million rubles), “Three cats and a sea of ​​​​adventure” (fees – 138 million rubles, budget – 93 million rubles), “Chuk and Gek. Big Adventure” (fees — 248.4 million rubles, budget — 200.2 million rubles) and “Lovers” (fees — 170.9 million rubles, budget — 93 million rubles).

The Ministry of Culture, as noted by RBC, believes that the existing support tools “are sufficient to ensure the return on the volume of private investment in the production and distribution of national films.”
