The State Commission for Radio Frequencies (SCRF) at a meeting at the end of April will discuss the allocation of NPP Radiosvyaz (a subsidiary of Rostec) of frequencies for the development of tropospheric radio communications. This is stated in the materials for the meeting, to which RBC.
Tropospheric radio communication is a data transmission technology based on the reflection of a signal from the troposphere, the lower atmosphere.
A representative of Rostec said that the subsidiary of the state corporation asked to allocate to it the frequencies 4435-4555 MHz and 4630-4750 MHz for the operation of the Groza-1.5 tropospheric communication stations. It is assumed that thanks to the project it will be possible to organize communication where the use of other methods is technically impossible or financially inexpedient.
According to Oleg Ivanov, General Director of the Research Institute, the resource is needed for the development of digital tropospheric communication stations. “These devices make it possible to form alternative communication channels to satellites in hard-to-reach areas, primarily in Siberia and the Far East. We believe that the mass introduction of these systems will play a significant role in eliminating the digital divide in Russia’s territories,” he is convinced. Mr. Ivanov added that the project is being implemented partly at his expense, partly with a subsidy from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, but did not give details.
