RBC: AmRest will sell 215 KFC restaurants to Smart Service instead of Almira

The Polish holding AmRest terminated the contract for the sale of 215 Russian KFC restaurants, concluded with Almira LLC, and signed a new contract with the Izhevsk company Smart Service, reports RBC with a link to the AmRest post.

In December, it was reported that the Federal Antimonopoly Service approved acquisition of 214 KFC franchise restaurants owned by AmRest by Almira LLC. The fact that two companies entered into a contract of sale, became known December 7th.

In October “Smart-Service” I bought 70 KFC restaurants and the brand’s master franchise from the American holding Yum! Brands. As Kommersant found out, the new owner is obliged to gradually rebrand all 1,000 KFC establishments in Russia into Rostic’s. Prior to the deal, Smart Service operated 41 KFC locations.

There are about 1,000 KFC restaurants in Russia. Structure Yum! Brands operated about 70 KFC establishments in Russia. An American company in Russia has many local franchisees who are unhappy with the new owner of the master franchise. In January, the franchisees asked the government to stop the sale of the chain’s Russian business. They were embarrassed that the KFC brand would no longer be in the country, and royalties and marketing fees for them would remain the same – 11%.
