RAPU: Russia has overtaken the United States in the production of mineral fertilizers

Russia over the past ten years has increased the production of mineral fertilizers by 40%, becoming the second largest producer in the world after China. About it declared Andrey Guryev, President of the Russian Association of Fertilizer Producers (RAPU), at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Over the past ten years, we have increased production by 40 percent – up to 55 million tons – of all types of fertilizers. We have overtaken the United States, India in production and today we are the largest producer of mineral fertilizers in the world after China,” he said.

According to him, Russia provided for this time one third of the total growth in the production of mineral fertilizers in the world. Deliveries to the domestic market increased 2.5 times to 13.2 million tons.

At the same time, Russia remains the largest exporter of fertilizers with volumes of 37-38 million tons, despite the fall in exports in 2021-2022. because of the sanctions and “all the export issues that happened,” Guryev said.

Such results were the result of investments in the industry, which amounted to 1.8 trillion rubles over ten years.

“We have paid more than 600 billion rubles during this time. only taxes. In 2022, we paid about 200 billion rubles, which is also a record for our industry,” said the head of the RAPU.

According to him, there are 36 fertilizer production enterprises in the country, employing 110,000 specialists, the average salary is 130,000 rubles.

Previously at RAPU reportedthat the export of mineral fertilizers from Russia decreased by 15% in 2022. Total exports fell primarily due to a decrease in the export of potash fertilizers, a representative of the association then explained to Vedomosti. The RAPU also noted that since the summer of last year, the Russian Federation began to increase the export of fertilizers to India, Turkey and African countries.
