Railway workers ask for compensation for wagons confiscated in Ukraine and Finland

The Union of Railway Transport Operators (SOZHT) suggested that the Ministry of Transport prepare a draft resolution to compensate rolling stock operators for losses due to the retention of part of their freight car fleet in Ukraine and Finland. This was told to Vedomosti by a source in one of the operator companies and confirmed by two more owners of the rolling stock. SOZHT members account for more than 70% of the freight wagon fleet registered in Russia. Vedomosti sent a request to the union.

According to operators, a total of about 16,000 Russian railcars got stuck in Ukraine and Finland. They estimate the maximum amount of compensation for their loss at 32 billion rubles, follows from the words of Vedomosti sources. The total number of freight cars owned by Russian operators is about 1.2 million units. Accordingly, a little more than 1% of the total fleet of freight cars in Russia was detained on the territory of Ukraine and Finland.
