The Qatari authorities will allow the sale of beer at matches of the 2022 FIFA World Cup three hours before kick-off and one hour after the final whistle. This is reported Reuters with reference to a source familiar with the plans of the organizers of the tournament.
Budweiser — a major sponsor of the championship with exclusive rights to sell beer at the tournament — will serve drinks around the stadium, but not in the stands or in the lobby, according to the agency’s source.
“Beer will be available when the gates open, that is, three hours before the start of the match. Anyone who wants to can drink beer. And then when they leave the stadium, within one hour of the final whistle,” a source told Reuters.
In addition, Budweiser will be allowed to serve beer in the main FIFA fan zone in downtown Doha from 18:30 to 1:00 every day for 29 days while the tournament is in progress.
The FIFA World Cup starts on November 20th and ends on December 18th. This year the tournament is held for the first time in a Muslim country. In previous World Cup matches, beer was served in the fan zones all day.
