Pyrrhic victory for the promotion – Newspaper Kommersant No. 9 (7454) of 01/19/2023

This week, on the vc.ru website, one of the visitors complained about MTS-Bank, which, according to him, blocked the card due to the large number of payments. “I was also blocked from any access to account information, internet banking and the mobile app,” the client complains. This happened due to his participation in the bank’s New Year’s promotion “Nakyuar per million”, in which from December 20 to January 20, the client who made the largest number of payments by QR code through the SBP won 1 million rubles.
To get ahead of the other contestants, he spent “the entire New Year holiday, each of the 12 days of 13+ hours a day” scanning QR codes. As a result, he managed to make over 11 thousand payments, as a rule, in the amount of 10–20 rubles. As a result, the ideological fighter for banknotes spent more than 110 thousand rubles on his potential victory, but he never achieved it. When the author of the post came to the branch of MTS Bank, there, according to him, he was informed that the account was blocked for a large number of operations under 115-FZ (money laundering and combating terrorism).
From the side of MTS-Bank, the situation looks somewhat different. As Kommersant was explained there, the author of the post became their client only after learning about the action. On January 9, the bank summed up the interim results of the action and noticed that one of its participants had “a significant number of transactions for the same amount.” In addition, “all payments went to an electronic wallet, from which this participant in the action could withdraw money at any time to other cards.” Such generation of transactions, according to the bank, is dishonest behavior and violates the rights of other participants in the action. “In this regard, the bank refused the participant of the action to participate in the action: it blocked the card and the online bank for the duration of the action,” they explained.
In other words, the bank assumes that the author of the post behaved like Ostap Bender and wanted to get a million rubles in one of the 400 relatively honest ways of taking money, returning the purchased goods and getting back even the funds that he spent on the action. And if we consider that, according to the bank, only 4 thousand participants made 28 thousand payments, then 11 thousand transfers of the author of the post could well qualify for victory.
The problem is that, according to the laws of the genre, the casino always wins, and those who count the cards or come up with other ways to help fortune win over are invariably calculated and removed.
In a word, if it seems to an ordinary person that he has a chance to profit from the bank, then in most cases this is an illusion, and sometimes dangerous.
