The FAS spoke about the complaints of Russians about the commercial, which was shown on the air of Channel One and Russia-1. The information in the advertisement, the department explained, gives consumers reason to believe that the promotion applies to all goods in the stores of the distribution network, but in fact the discount was valid only for some items. The full details were indicated only in small print in the disclaimer, which was shown in the advertisement for a short time.
“Thus, information that is essential for consumers about all the conditions of the promotion was present in the advertisement formally and could not be fully perceived by them due to the small print and short display time,” the FAS concluded.
As a result, the FAS opened a case on the grounds of violation of advertising legislation, and then a case on an administrative offense. As a result, the trading network was fined 300,000 rubles.
Earlier May 30 FAS reported about a fine for Sberbank for 600,000 rubles. The bank, according to the department, in advertising its loan, indicated important information in small print, which is why consumers did not receive full information about all its conditions. In May, the FAS also fined Otkritie Bank for similar violations.
