“Increasing and updating the aircraft fleet is not an easy task, I am aware of this, but nevertheless we must work intensively on this. And of course, on increasing the accessibility of flights for our citizens. “I would like to emphasize that it is important to prevent excessive increases in ticket prices while unconditionally ensuring the quality of passenger service and flight safety,” the president said.
Vladimir Putin also noted that the transfer of aircraft to airlines must take place within the agreed time frame without delays or delays. At the same time, the ships themselves must meet all requirements for quality, comfort and safety of flights, and be “globally competitive” in their technical characteristics. “Only a few countries in the world are capable of producing a line of modern aircraft. And Russia is among them. We have drawn up large-scale plans in this area,” he said.
According to the Ministry of Transport, Russian airlines in 2023 increased passenger traffic by 10% compared to the previous year, to 105 million people. At the same time, the International Air Transport Association noted that Russian airlines are recovering from the consequences of the pandemic more slowly than the global airline industry. Experts believe that it is unlikely that air travel in Russia will return to the level of the record year 2019 (128 million people) in the near future due to the aging fleet and sanctions.
