Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the initiative to regulate online games in the country so that they are located on the .ru domain, and all servers are on the territory of the Russian Federation. The proposal was voiced by the head of the executive committee of the Boxing Federation, Umar Kremlev.
On meeting The Council on Physical Education and Sports, Mr. Kremlev noted that American and Canadian companies are involved in Internet games. About $5 billion is transferred abroad through the .com zone, he added.
“It is proposed to include Internet games in a single regulator, so that everything is in the .ru zone, all software and servers should be on the territory of the Russian Federation,” said Umar Kremlev (quoted from TASS).
He considers the lack of a single regulator of online games to be a problem. According to him, they promote “anti-state values” and everything Russian is presented negatively. Vladimir Putin supported the initiative: “Indeed, we should have servers. We love both Canada and the USA, but to make money from us, especially in such a negative way, why do we allow it?”
In August, the Kribrum company and GRChTs (a structure of Roskomnadzor) prepared an analytical report on the risks and opportunities of the computer games industry in Russia. Among the risks were cyberbullying, LGBT propaganda, and the creation of a negative image of the country.
