Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law establishing a 10% tax on excess profits for large companies. The law will come into force on January 1, 2024. The tax must be paid no later than January 28, 2024. It will be credited to the federal budget and be of a one-time nature. Tax revenues are planned in the amount of 300 billion rubles.
The list of those exempted from paying tax was significantly expanded during the consideration of the law in the State Duma in the second reading. Companies in the oil and gas and coal mining sectors, small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) and payers of the unified agricultural tax were added to developers who did not pay dividends, troubled financial institutions, as well as enterprises that actively invested and therefore had no revenue in 2018-2019.
