Putin named Nadym airport after Viktor Chernomyrdin

The airport in the city of Nadym in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug was named after Viktor Chernomyrdin, the former chairman of the board of Gazprom. A decree to this effect was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin today, March 27. He published on the official Internet portal of legal information. The decree came into force from the date of signing.
Viktor Chernomyrdin served as Minister of the Gas Industry of the USSR from 1985 to 1989, in 1989-1992 he was Chairman of the Board of Gazprom. Mr. Chernomyrdin was also Russia’s prime minister from 1992 to 1998 and Russia’s ambassador to Ukraine from 2001 to 2009. Viktor Chernomyrdin died in 2010 in Moscow.
