The government received the right to prohibit road freight transportation in Russia to companies from countries that had previously imposed similar sanctions. The decree on this was signed by President Vladimir Putin.

As follows from document, new powers are granted to the government “in connection with the unfriendly and contrary to international law actions of some foreign states.” The ban may be introduced in relation to freight transport of foreign carriers from foreign countries, “which have introduced restrictive measures against citizens of the Russian Federation and Russian legal entities in the field of international road transport of goods.”

When introducing a ban, the government must establish its duration and determine the types of transportation that will be subject to the restriction. The authorities will also compile a list of countries that have imposed sanctions on cargo transportation.

Freight transportation exchange ATI.SU reported that by June the situation with road freight transportation in Russia began to stabilize. Among the external directions, Ukrainian is the leader in terms of dynamics. Transportation along this route increased by almost 280% due to the supply of construction, humanitarian cargo and equipment to the republics of the DPR and LPR, as well as to the Kherson region and the export of vegetables and grain from them.
