Putin considers it necessary to return to the issue of building a bridge to Sakhalin


Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a video conference with the head of the Sakhalin region, Valery Limarenko, said that the bridge connecting Sakhalin with the mainland is important. According to him, transport accessibility will allow the region to develop at an accelerated pace.

“The topic itself is important, I agree. It is necessary to connect Sakhalin with the mainland by a bridge. And development there will proceed at a different pace, I am absolutely sure. Let’s return to this topic and see,” the president said (quoted by TASS).

According to Mr. Limarenko’s estimates, 300 billion rubles are needed for the construction of the bridge. Vladimir Putin instructed the head of the region to work with the federal authorities on the development of adjacent territories, which would help pay for the construction. The President said that he would prepare a corresponding instruction to the government.

The construction of a bridge to Sakhalin has been discussed for many years. The last time Vladimir Putin discussed construction during a direct line in 2017. The project involved the creation of a railway between Selikhin (Khabarovsk Territory) and Nysh (Sakhalin Region) across the Nevelskoy Strait.

In 2021 prices, the cost of the project was estimated at 676 billion rubles. of which about 300 billion are needed for the construction of the bridge. In 2022, Multifunctional Freight District LLC stated about readiness to act as a concessionaire and invest 300 billion rubles in the bridge to Sakhalin.
