On behalf of the Prosecutor General of Russia Igor Krasnov, an inspection of violations at gold ore deposits was organized. Prosecutors will also check compliance with the rules for the safe conduct of work related to the use of subsoil, requirements in the field of environmental protection, the procedure for conservation, liquidation of mine workings, as well as land reclamation after mining is completed.

“Prosecutors are focused on taking comprehensive measures to calculate and recover the damage caused to the environment in the event of detection of pollution of water bodies, illegal logging of forest plantations, littering of the provided land plots with production and consumption waste,” the supervisory authority noted.

The department intends to pay special attention to how organizations dispose of the mined and produced precious metals, their scrap and waste, as well as measures aimed at curbing the illegal circulation of precious metals.

According to Russian law, only licensed organizations can mine precious metals. Part of the extracted goes to the state reserve, and the mining company has the right to sell the rest.

However, precious metals can be sold only to enterprises that produce jewelry or otherwise process precious metals, but not to individuals. For illegal circulation of precious metals, imprisonment of up to five years (if the crime is committed by one person) and up to seven years with a fine of 1 million rubles can be threatened.
