The video hosting service Youtube, as well as the social networks Facebook and Instagram (owned by the Meta corporation, recognized as extremist in Russia), Telegram and X are experiencing large-scale disruptions around the world. This is evidenced by the service data Downdetector.

According to the service, 72% of Facebook users (owned by the Meta corporation, recognized as extremist in Russia) encountered difficulties logging in, 64% of Instagram users (owned by the Meta corporation, recognized as extremist in Russia) report problems with the application. About 45% of users reported problems logging into Youtube and X through the browser. Almost 60% of users who reported a failure cannot send messages on Whatsapp (owned by Meta Corporation, recognized as extremist in Russia). Judging by the service data, very few people report problems with Telegram.

Earlier today, Hong Kong internet provider Hutchison Global Communications reported about damage to four of 15 communication cables in the Red Sea. The company estimates that this affects 25% of Internet traffic. Yemen’s Houthis, who are responsible for recent attacks on merchant ships, have denied any involvement in damaging the cables.
