Prices for the PlayStation and Xbox consoles in Russia for the first time fell lower than they were at the start of sales in 2020, reports “News” with reference to retailers. According to them, initially the Xbox Series X console cost 45.5 thousand rubles, now it can be bought from retailers for 40 thousand. The prefix from Sony at the start of sales cost 47 thousand rubles, six months ago its price reached about 70 thousand. , now – in the range from 48 thousand to 56 thousand rubles.

The reasons for the price reduction were, among other things, an increase in the supply of set-top boxes to the market, as well as problems that users had with acquiring digital copies of games. The low demand, in particular, was stated by the representative of Marvel Distribution, which is engaged in the import of equipment to Russia. “Previously, the high cost was due to the shortage of consoles. As the market became saturated and customer demand declined, the price went down, Izvestia was told at Citilink.

The press service of M.Video-Eldorado said that in the first six months of 2023, unit sales of “actual” set-top boxes more than doubled compared to last year. Over the same period, the demand for these consoles on Ozon increased by 2.8 times. According to Ozon, now the Xbox is on average 22% cheaper than a year ago, the PlayStation is 20%.

In June Microsoft announced, which will raise the cost of the Xbox Series X console in most countries starting August 1, and Xbox Game Pass subscriptions starting July 6 (for new users). The console price change will not affect the US, Japan, Brazil, Colombia and Chile, and the subscription price will not rise in Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, Saudi Arabia and Chile.
